fotolia_43494759_l-600x475As a teenager I had a rather pessimistic outlook on the world. I used to tell people: “Why are you laughing? Can’t you see the world is going to hell? Corruption is rampant, we are actively destroying the planet, people only think about themselves, there is no hope for the future.”

And people used to tell me: “You are such a pessimist.”

And each time my reply was the same: “I’m not, I’m a realist.” Thinking to myself that the others were wrong and that they were unable to see reality for what is was.

Later on in life, as a young adult, my vision changed and I said to people: “Why do you despair? Can’t you see the world is beautiful? People have good hearts, there are astoundingly beautiful places on this earth and an incredible diversity of ideas, everything is possible!”

And people told me: “You are such an optimist.”

My reply hadn’t changed: “I’m not, I’m a realist”. Thinking to myself that the others were wrong and that they were unable to see reality for what is was.

Today when I hear people say that the world is going to hell or that the world is wonderful, I know that they are right. They are all realists and they correctly express the reality they choose to live in.
